The benchmark Indian equity indices are expected to open on a positive note today, with GIFT Nifty futures trading 40 points higher at 24,608.
Investor sentiment will also track developments in India-China relations after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Both leaders acknowledged that India and China can play a crucial role in stabilising global trade amid the ongoing US trade war, raising hopes of improved bilateral ties and stronger regional cooperation.
On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 79809.65 down by -270.92 points or by -0.34 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24426.85 down by -74.05 points or by -0.3 %.
On the global front, Asian markets traded mostly lower on Monday after a US federal appeals court ruled that President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal tariffs” were unlawful. The court said Trump had exceeded his presidential authority by imposing sweeping duties on nearly all major trading partners under his April 2 “liberation day” declaration.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 0.92 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi shed 0.85 per cent, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 declined 0.17 per cent. On the other hand, China’s Shanghai Composite bucked the trend, edging up 0.20 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 394.13 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 90936.81 Crore.
On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 109177 with a total turnover of Rs. 20280.36 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1017690 with a total turnover of Rs. 68637.71 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 97742994 with a total turnover of Rs. 18066224.35 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 4081253 with a total turnover of Rs. 288204.17 Crore.
The FIIs on 29/08/2025 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 16426.21 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 689.77 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 22514.44 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 776.68 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -6088.23 Crore and Rs. -86.91
