Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end higher despite Trump’s tariff blow

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded on Thursday, supported by last-hour buying in IT and banking stocks, despite investor sentiment being dampened by US President Donald Trump's move to impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods.



The 30-share benchmark indices ended at 80623.26 up by 79.27 points or by 0.1 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24596.15 up by 21.95 points or by 0.09 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80737.55 and intraday low of 79811.29 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24634.2 and intraday low of 24344.15



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1483.90,+1.68%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1479.05,+1.17%), Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 301.80,+0.97%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1079.75,+0.85%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12625.60,+0.80%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1345.50,-1.55%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 647.50,-0.85%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2515.00,-0.74%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 330.00,-0.69%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3210.65,-0.54%), among others.



IT index was at 34153.57 up by 246.84 points or by 0.73%. Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services Ltd. (Rs. 384.80,+6.21%), Vakrangee Ltd. (Rs. 8.96,+4.43%), Cigniti Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1610.10,+4.09%), Coforge Ltd. (Rs. 1703.00,+3.97%), Nelco Ltd. (Rs. 871.95,+3.17%),.



CGS index was at 67848.76 down by -282.69 points or by -0.41%. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 227.80,-4.94%), SKF India Ltd. (Rs. 4577.90,-4.36%), Carborundum Universal Ltd. (Rs. 854.60,-3.52%), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 3336.90,-3.40%), Elgi Equipments Ltd. (Rs. 535.00,-1.96%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4404 , shares advanced were 1966 while 2260 shares declined and 178 were unchanged.
