The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a Rs 12,000 crore subsidy for the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for the financial year 2025-26, benefiting 10.33 crore households.
Launched in May 2016, PMUY provides free LPG connections to adult women from economically weaker households. As of July 1, there are around 10.33 crore PMUY connections across the country.
According to an official statement, the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a targeted subsidy of ?300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills per year (proportionately adjusted for 5 kg cylinders) for PMUY beneficiaries during FY 2025-26.
