The rupee strengthened by 14 paise to close at 86.59 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, supported by a decline in global crude oil prices and a softer dollar.
Forex traders noted that robust performance in domestic equity markets and continued foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows also boosted the local currency.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 86.65 and moved within a narrow range of 86.55 to 86.67 before ending the session at 86.59, marking a 14-paise gain.
